More than eight hundred scientists (holders of a Ph.D. in Psychology or doctoral candidates) are members of HPS and its branches: faculty members of Greek and foreign Universities, researchers, professional psychologists, employees in organizations, services, and institutions in Greece and abroad.

The actions of HPS include, among others, publishing the internationally indexed scientific journal “Psychology,” organizing Psychology Research Conferences, Symposia, Seminars, and various educational activities for the continuous renewal and dissemination of scientific knowledge both among specialists and the general public. Moreover, HPS seeks to support and enhance Psychological Research in Greece by awarding prizes to young scientists.

Furthermore, HPS intervenes in matters of social interest, addressing the general public. Simultaneously, it aims to highlight the various dimensions of psychological science, as well as the areas where psychology can offer solutions to everyday issues affecting citizens.

HPS participates in international psychological associations, representing the country and promoting research and interventions conducted within it. With its international profile, collaboration of its members with distinguished psychologists abroad, and organization of international conferences in Greece, HPS keeps the Greek psychological community informed about international developments, expertise, and terms of providing psychological services.

Additionally, HPS promotes the implementation of criteria and standards for delivering high-level services by professional psychologists. In this context, it collaborates with the professional body of psychology, the Association of Greek Psychologists (SEPS).

HPS and SEPS constitute the National Psychology Committee and collaborate in awarding the EuroPsy title. This certification from the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA) defines the adequacy criteria for the contemporary European professional psychologist regarding academic education and professional training. EuroPsy holders are registered in EFPA’s European Register of Psychologists, accessible to the public (https://www.efpa.eu/).

Beneficiaries of HPS’s actions include those practicing psychology in teaching, research, and professional domains, the citizens receiving their services, and anyone understanding how the actions of HPS improve everyday life through the potential of psychological science.
